As part of the peak campaign to crack down on crime and ensure security for the 16th National Assembly election, the 2026–2031 People’s Council elections, Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse 2026), and major political events, the Da Nang Police have successfully dismantled the largest cannabis cultivation, storage, and trafficking case ever discovered in the city.
Suspect Caught with Nearly 8 kg of Cannabis
At around 5:00 PM on January 19, officers from the Drug Crime Investigation Division of Da Nang Police, in coordination with Cam Le Ward Police, conducted an inspection at a house located at 745 Truong Chinh Street, Cam Le District. During the inspection, authorities caught Do Huu Duy (born in 2003, resident of Cam Le District) in the act of dividing nearly 8 kilograms of cannabis.
Further inspection revealed 51 cannabis plants being cultivated in a closed-room environment equipped with lighting systems, irrigation, and specialized equipment for plant care.
Additional Cannabis Cultivation Site Discovered
During further investigation, the suspect admitted to renting another house at 201 Cach Mang Thang 8 Street, Cam Le District, to grow cannabis. Upon inspection, police discovered 40 cannabis plants of various sizes, along with cultivation equipment, lighting systems, and air conditioning operating continuously 24/7.
In total, authorities seized more than 90 cannabis plants, along with cannabis products and various tools used for illegal cultivation and processing.
Illegal Transactions Worth Millions of VND
According to the suspect’s confession, he began planning the cannabis cultivation operation in early June 2025. He purchased seeds through social media platforms, organized cultivation, harvesting, and distribution, and conducted multiple illegal transactions. The total value of these transactions reached 112 million VND.
Major Achievement in the Fight Against Drug Crime
This case is considered the largest cannabis-related case ever uncovered in Da Nang, marking a significant achievement by the city’s police forces in combating drug-related crimes.
The timely detection and dismantling of this operation have helped maintain public security and prevent the spread of drug-related activities, especially during a critical period when the city is focusing on major political tasks and public events.
Da Nang authorities reaffirm their commitment to building drug-free wards and a drug-free city, ensuring a safe and healthy living environment for residents and visitors.
The Criminal Investigation Agency of Da Nang Police has officially arrested the suspect for illegal drug trafficking and is continuing to expand the investigation to identify and prosecute other individuals involved in the case.
