Russia Grants Visa-Free Entry To Vietnamese Citizens For Up To 30 Days

Vietnamese citizens will be able to travel to Russia without a visa for stays of up to 30 days from October 15, 2026, under a new policy signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The measure is expected to make travel between the two countries more convenient and create additional opportunities for tourism and bilateral exchanges.

New Visa-Free Policy Takes Effect On October 15

Under Decree No. 730, signed on October 12, Vietnamese citizens holding ordinary passports can enter Russia and stay for up to 30 days without a visa. The policy will remain in effect until October 15, 2027.

The exemption covers several purposes, including tourism, family visits, business trips, participation in scientific, cultural, socio-political, economic and sporting events, as well as transit through Russian territory.

However, the policy does not apply to Vietnamese citizens entering Russia for employment, journalistic activities, education or long-term residence. Travelers planning to visit should therefore check the conditions carefully to ensure their purpose of entry falls within the permitted categories.

The new arrangement offers Vietnamese travelers greater flexibility when planning trips to Russia, whether to explore its historic cities, experience its cultural attractions or attend international events.

A New Opportunity For Vietnam–Russia Tourism

The visa exemption comes as tourism and air connectivity between Vietnam and Russia continue to develop. Direct flight connections and promotional initiatives have helped strengthen travel links, while both countries have opportunities to attract more visitors from each other’s markets.

Russia offers Vietnamese travelers a range of experiences, from Moscow’s historic landmarks and Saint Petersburg’s architectural heritage to its museums, cultural institutions and distinctive natural landscapes. Simplified entry procedures may make these destinations more accessible to travelers considering a visit.

The policy could also support broader exchanges in business, culture, science and sports, allowing eligible visitors to travel for short-term activities without applying for a visa.

For Vietnam’s tourism sector, Russia remains an important source market. Easier travel arrangements may further support two-way tourism, particularly as Vietnamese destinations continue to attract Russian visitors seeking coastal holidays and warmer weather.

Although the visa exemption is temporary and subject to specific conditions, it marks a further step toward facilitating travel between Vietnam and Russia. Travelers should review the latest official entry requirements before departure to ensure they meet all applicable conditions.
